Start a new life

People have phobias. Period. I have mine too. My experiences with flying were notoriously bad. Not unique (this is shared with many other denizens of this planet.). However it places you in a not too enviable state if I may be tempted to say. And believe me that is an understatement. I had flown as a child and then I was ignorant of the terrors of flying. For an interim period I don’t really know how and when but I developed a fear of flying akin to seeing a ghost or a poltergeist. Uncanny but very real. I would break into a cold sweat on hearing the roar of aircraft engines. I would get butterflies in my stomach and hyperventilate almost spontaneously. All too scary. All very mind-warping. What could be done to reverse this ? I tried everything from yoga to self-hypnosis to meditation. The results were not very encouraging. The trepidation was perceptible. The sense of failure increasing every moment. I felt I was on the edge of an abyss and I was about to fall into a bottomless pit

Look Up Stories

A truly epoch making event in my life occurred post my standard ten exams when I attempted to get the NTSE scholarship awarded by NCERT. This is a prestigious award and is awarded to 1000 deserving candidates out of a corpus of almost 15 lacs. Most candidates either give up before trying or succumb to the rigorous selection process. There is a written test on 4 scholastic subjects and mental ability viz.aptitude followed by an interview at the Institute of Science with 4 outstanding scientists. The caveat to this is that you are eligible for the latter only if you clear the hurdle of the former. I had not done as well as I had expected at the Boards notching up just 86% when my peers who were less talented got above 90%. However I did not give up hope. Knowing that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity I stuck doggedly to my task (and this has nothing to do with dogs..) and focused on 4 scholastic subjects namely chemistry, biology, civics and physics and of course menta

Chessbase.com Game #2

Played another game against a very good opponent. The game ended in a draw. (I was up on time but lower on material, although not enough to force a win.) See the game for yourself. My opponent actually applauded me. !!!

New Poem - Dante and Base Ten

Two and two make four, Four and four eight, Is it destiny or fate.....? Nay..., Help, I'm stuck in a quagmire, Let me your intellect hire, To solve this conundrum.., Ho-Hum. The rewards are plum, When you b'come aware..., The base ten does at you stare, With the audacity of a lion. What then is this base ten, That makes me search the depths of my ken.., As an after thought I discover, That it's as flexible as rubber. My tribute to the sages of yore, Who coined this number store..., Which even today, It's benefits assay..., In abundance. Cheers...Base Ten then it is, That plugs us in, To the depths of the Universe. Whoa...Talk of a divine USB... And what I see.., Is Dante's divine comedy unfold, Better felt that told..., I aver.
