Start a new life

People have phobias. Period.
I have mine too. My experiences with flying were notoriously bad. Not unique (this is shared with many other denizens of this planet.). However it places you in a not too enviable state if I may be tempted to say. And believe me that is an understatement.
I had flown as a child and then I was ignorant of the terrors of flying.
For an interim period I don’t really know how and when but I developed a fear of flying akin to seeing a ghost or a poltergeist. Uncanny but very real.
I would break into a cold sweat on hearing the roar of aircraft engines.
I would get butterflies in my stomach and hyperventilate almost spontaneously.
All too scary. All very mind-warping.
What could be done to reverse this ? I tried everything from yoga to self-hypnosis to meditation.
The results were not very encouraging. The trepidation was perceptible. The sense of failure increasing every moment.
I felt I was on the edge of an abyss and I was about to fall into a bottomless pit. (please excuse any biblical imagery.).
My morale was low. My spirits sank. My soul was in torment.
I became a worshipper of the Devil and I feared redemption for my apostasy.
And then one day a ray of hope.
I planned a yearly vacation and air travel was mandatory.
I thought of a million ways to procrastinate and even postpone the trip altogether.
What a loser.
The destination was picked as Thailand and a carrier was chosen from among the Thai carriers.
Boy, where was I headed.
Was this curtains ? Or was this a revelation ?
I was soon to find out.
The day of the flight arrived.
We proceeded for check-in and customs clearance.
All done we boarded the flight.
I took an aisle seat. Looking out of the window would have been terrifying.
The engines chugged and the aircraft began the take-off manoeuvre.
The aircraft gained speed. I fastened my seat-belt. Secretly I wished that we would never take off.
And then the aircraft began ascent.
5000, 10000, 20000, 38000 feet we were airborne.
And I was ALIVE. Ha-Ha.
I had done it.
I had confronted my darkest fear.
The rest as they say is history.
Since then I have flown to one more international destination in even more trying circumstances and yes folks, I’m still alive.
So if I may use poor rhyme “No pain. No gain. It’s all in the brain. Pray don’t stop pain, For then you end gain and again it’s its your brain old chum, yes your brain.”
This has been my life-changer. From a ragamuffin I’ve become a prince.
All my life and possibly in the afterlife I will continue to remember and draw inspiration from this.
Every cloud has a silver lining and somewhere out there the Truth lies hidden.

We have to search for it.

Chess blogging - Chessbase is back with a bang !

In view of my keen interest in UI for applications and websites, I feel it necessary to promote an investigation of the new play-chess interface on www.chessbase.com . * It is minimalistic * Allows you to play as Guest * Allows you to choose from different time-controls * Allows you to test your skills vis-a-vis opponents from across the globe Have a look at this interface, that is impressive from a UI developers point-of-view, and very conducive for a chess player to test his wits !  Whoa !  😇😇😇

B Trees🌲🌳🌴 databases and CHESS☺

Binary trees are a specific version of decision trees that have two nodes, one parent and two children, and this concept is used in database programming with relational databases like SQL server for creating in clustered and non clustered indexes. Alpha beta pruning together with B tree searches makeup the basis of chess programming. I have played a program that reached its thought horizon and then had a bizarre response inspite of  having an advantage of one pawn♟️
