India is known for (or at least assumed to be famous for....)
- arranged marriages
- lavish weddings
In this context the ideal of remaining a bachelor (unsullied, so to speak) remains a questionable paradigm.
However, there are some truly exceptional Indians who have never taken the plunge.
Here is a brief listing of the same :
1. Rahul Gandhi - Scion of the Gandhi family, grandson of Indira Gandhi (ex-PM), son of Sonia Gandhi
(de-facto head of the Congress Party). He has decided to go it alone, possibly putting an end to the dynasty politics
associated with his family.
2. Ratan Tata : Scion of the Tata family, which is a multi-billion dollar conglomerate holder, and Chairman of the
Tata group. In spite of company politics, affecting recent fortunes of the group, he remains a mystical and enigmatic figure.
3. Salman Khan : Son of Salim Khan, a Hindi movie icon and promoter of social causes through his "Being Human" charity.
He recently celebrated his 51st birthday, amid much fanfare and gaiety. Although he has had dalliances with several female
actresses and celebrities, he remains a staunch supporter of the "Stay Single" brigade.
4. A P J Abdul Kalam : (my favorite) - A genius of the oral tradition, he was nicknamed the "Missile Man". He played stellar roles
in India's Pokhran 2 programme, and had played a key role in India's DRDO. Although he failed to qualify for pilot training, he overcame
poverty in his childhood (he used to do the paper route), and his image evokes awe in young and old alike. When asked about his single status,
he replied jokingly that he would not have achieved half of what he had achieved had he changed his bachelor status.
WoW ! This is a sample of some of India's very best, in different spheres, who have faced turbulent waters on their own, and come up trumps....
Three cheers to these exceptional leaders of humanity !!! 💜
