Why is the Home Page of a site not abstracted from SEO -

In a google search directed at "Yahoo answers", the Home Page occupies third spot. SEO is fine, but when a site is requested, it's Home Page should occupy the Numero Uno spot. In the graphic, the filter used places tumblr results above the de-facto Home Page (in.answers.yahoo.com), which is inappropriate. 😈
